The League of Legends Season One Championship is over, and we’ve officially crowned FnaticMSI the first League of Legends Champions!
FnaticMSI’s story is a testament to what teamwork truly means. The team flew out a sixth member - WeWillFailer - to support their starting five, and when one of their regular - Xpeke’s - plane was delayed on day one, the decision to include their sixth man paid off in spades. Despite a weak showing in group play, their 1-2 record without their difference-maker was enough to advance them into the bracketed round, and an impressive Day 2 showing by Shushei kept the team in the upper bracket into Day 3.
After dominating the upper bracket with remarkable performance after remarkable performance, FnaticMSI found themselves in the Championship match playing a familiar set of faces, aAa, who they had previously eliminated in the upper bracket finals. The stage was set for a rematch between the two top European teams for a shot at the grand prize of $50,000 and the privilege of being crowned the first ever League of Legends Champions.
Leaning on a one-game advantage for winning the upper bracket, FnaticMSI dropped the first game in the championship match, forcing a final, win-or-go-home game against aAa. The team rallied behind strong performances by Shushei and LaMiaZlt to secure a win over their opponents.
